I would’ve been in the early days of my third trimester when I waddled to the London Olympia for The Baby Show with my husband. It was a lovely day out and we made the most of if before baby was due to arrive for what would’ve been a few months later.
I’d gone to this event open minded, not really planning to buy any large ticket items just yet, but rather I wanted to study the market for what was out there, so I could make informed choices of what I wanted for baby upon her arrival.
I saw bouncers, prams, cots, baby monitors, sound machines, nursery furniture, you name it, but what stood out to me as soon as you walked in the main entrance was the very elaborate Nala’s Baby stand. It was a whole production, with props, plinths and all. And I loved it. I’m a sucker for set-design and anything visual really, so it was really special to see the effort they took to showcase their products on this 3-day weekend.
By the way, we purchased a sound machine that we saw at the show, but we actually bought it some weeks later online. This was Ewan the Sheep, and my thoughts on it are in this article here.
Also I have to say, I saw the *Mama Xari Pram*, that I’ve always wanted ever since I can remember, but in the end I made a tough decision to decide against it and opt for the more practical Bugaboo Donkey, which I’ve written out at length *here*.
Back to Nala’s Baby, to be honest, at first I wasn’t keen to purchase anything from them before this event. I was really hesitant, hence why I only bought two products. They had a hype on social media at the time, justified due to many of their users testifying that their products fixed their baby’s skin concerns and adults alike, saying their eczema, for example, had drastically improved since using their products. Their products have been dermatologically tested and it’s been evidenced that the products do in fact improve eczema also, so if your little bubba is suffering from this dry skin condition. it may be worth a try, but please do your own research before trialing anything on baby’s skin. Also many people mentioned their sensitive skin agreed with these products. I loved this good feedback for the brand. But I had it in my head and was fervent that I would only use raw, unprocessed products for baby. I’m talking, a raw, unscented bar-soap gentle enough for baby’s skin for washing, and coconut oil and a little bit of shea butter that my Dad gets from a farm in Ghana for moisturising. That was it. I wasn’t intending to use anything else, at all. But Nala’s Baby got me!

They claim their products are 99% natural and free of mineral oil, paraffins, phenoxyethanols, parabens, palm oil, phthalates, SLESs (sodium lauryl ether sulfates), SLSs ((sodium lauryl sulphates) both kind of harsh cleansing a foaming agents), silicones, PEGs (polyethylene glycol), colourants or allergen-laden fragrance. So, I felt I didn’t veer far off from what I intended to do with baby’s skincare (all natural products only) when we purchased these bottles (above), so that made me feel better. What is impressive is that they’ve eradicated all these harsher, industry standard ingredients from their skin care line, but the body wash still creates a lovely sudsy foam perfect for baby’s bath, achieved with only a few drops of wash, and their body lotion is equally light yet deeply nourishing.

I opted for the fragrance-free body wash/ shampoo which came in at Ā£5.50 for 200ml and fragrance-free body lotion for the same price and grammage, which had a mild pleasant scent (according to my understanding, just because something is fragrance-free doesn’t mean it doesn’t smell of “nothing” rather it means there are no additional perfumes added to the product, which could potentially irritate baby’s skin. Please correct me if I’m wrong). Please note that they also have a scented version of the wash and lotion, so if you’re particular about this like me, make sure you purchase the right ones. They now also have 400ml sized bottles, coming in at Ā£8.50 which is still very affordable, and more economical which I love! Bear in mind, on their website regarding the Ā£8.50 price, it states that this is the promotional launch price for the larger bottles, so stock up on these if you’d like to purchase for that price.
If you do want to try their scented range, the key themed ingredients, some of which exude their own natural scent, that I’ve seen the brand use are oat/ oat-milk, coconut, hibiscus, aloe vera, camomile, vanilla and grape seed oil and lavender oil. I’m a bit weary of lavender oil though because I read months after attending this Baby Show that there may be a link between using lavender oil and children, boys and girls, gaining breast tissue abnormally before the onset of puberty! Please don’t take my word for it, I always ask you to do your own research and you make your own decisions based on what you read and experience, but I will link one article out of many and a study that backs what I’ve come across regarding this topic here.
On a lighter note, my husband bought a Nala’s Baby gift set for a close family member who also had celebrated the arrival of a bouncing baby boy at the time! You can see what the box looks like in my second “Story” post that’s on the top of this page and on the right. I have to say the box looks well presented! This brand’s attention to detail is exceptional! At the time, Nala’s Baby was apparently sold out everywhere, and it so happened that this particular family member of ours wanted to try Nala’s Baby for themselves and couldn’t get bottle! So this worked out as a great gift for them. It comes with their full product range, this includes their:
- Bubble Bath
- Body Wash and Shampoo (which I have the scent free version,)
- Body Lotion (again which we purchased for our baby)
- Hair Condtitioner
- Body Oil
- Body Butter
- Wooden Brush & Comb Set ( I love that it was wooden and not plastic)
- And a 100% Cotton Hooded Towel
I don’t think this set, above, has any fragrance-free products, so that’s something to bear in mind.
After a few weeks, I asked the recipient of our gift how their baby got on with the products. She mentioned that baby didn’t like some of the products, which was surprising, as so many people on socials where saying otherwise. I, however was told the scented ones where a little over-powering for her baby! Which was what I was raving about avoiding before purchasing any items.
I will say when I’ve used the scent-free ones, I’ve loved them as they seem gentle on baby’s skin. And they give baby a nice neutral scent after bath time which the best thing ever.
You know that new baby smell? Well with Nala’s Baby, after baby’s wash, you kind of get to re-live that all over again. When you’ve washed their hair with the body wash and shampoo, and baby’s hair smells and looks so clean and refreshed.
I would recommend the two bottles that I bought 100%. I’ve still got my coconut oil and pure shea butter on deck, but having these products in an easy-to-reach squeeze bottle for bath time is handy and just what I need!
Nala’s Baby can be purchased from their website, Boots online and Boots in-store all over the country!
What are your thoughts on Nala’s Baby? If you’ve tried the scented ones, out of interested let me know how you they smell. Are they too strong or subtle, comment below! I really want to know, I might try the body wash myself
